Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 July 2026
motobud is a weather-smart app for motorcyclists — plan curvy routes, check the rain along your line, record your rides, and see your riding buddies on the map. This policy explains what data motobud collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. motobud is operated by Petr Dospiva (Czech Republic). Questions? Email dospivap@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account — your email address, display name, and (when you sign in with Apple, Google or Meta) the basic profile that provider returns.
- Location — your position while you plan a route, record a ride, share your position in a riding group, or make yourself visible to nearby riders. Recording, buddy sharing and nearby-rider visibility only run during a ride or group session you start.
- Your content — planned routes and trips, recorded rides (GPS tracks, distance, time), the bikes in your garage, and saved places such as Home and Work.
- Diagnostics — basic technical logs and crash information needed to keep the app working. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
How we use it
We use your data only to provide the app: to plan and navigate routes, check the weather on your route, record and replay your rides, run friendly kilometre leaderboards, and show your group members to each other during a ride. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Sharing with your riding group
When you join a live riding group, your current position is shared with the other members of that group while the session is active, so you can find each other after a split. You can turn off ride-stat sharing in Settings. Leaving a group stops the sharing.
Visibility to nearby riders (opt-in)
You can choose to be visible to nearby riders. This setting is off by default. When you turn it on, your precise live position is shown to other motobud riders in your area — not only your friends or group — together with your display name, whether you are moving (speed and heading), and the make and model of the bike you picked for the ride. Your email address is never shared. This sharing happens only while you are actively recording a ride.
Only your latest position is ever shared — the feature keeps no location history of you for other riders, and none of them for you. Your position disappears from the nearby map within about 5 minutes of your last update, and immediately when you end the ride or turn the setting off.
Third parties that process data for us
To make the app work, limited data is sent to these services:
- Mapbox — map display and turn-by-turn navigation. Receives your location and route to render the map and guide you.
- GraphHopper — route planning. Receives the coordinates of your route waypoints.
- Photon (Komoot) — address search. Receives your search text and, for reverse lookups, a coordinate.
- Open-Meteo & ČHMÚ — weather and rain radar. We query the forecast for the area of your route; ČHMÚ radar imagery is public and contains no personal data.
The motobud backend runs on our own servers in the EU. Weather radar data © ČHMÚ, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account and content until you delete them. You can delete your account from within the app; this removes your account and associated rides, routes and profile data. Some minimal records may be retained where required by law.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email dospivap@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOÚ).
Children
motobud is intended for adult riders and is not directed at children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
